ConAgra will expand Waterloo snack production facility

WATERLOO, Iowa – ConAgra Foods plans to invest $55 million to expand its Waterloo manufacturing facility, adding a production line for David sunflower seed snacks. The project is expected to create 55 jobs in Waterloo.

Based in Omaha, Nebraska, ConAgra began producing Snack Pack and Swiss Miss brand products in Waterloo in 1997. The company plans to break ground in mid-June on an addition of 99,000 square feet of additional space and to have it operational by late 2016.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority approved a package of incentives for the project that will amount to up to $3.9 million. That includes up to $3.5 million in investment tax credits through the High Quality Jobs Program. The company will also receive the benefit of employee training with Hawkeye Community College through the Iowa Industrial New Jobs Training Program. Officials valued the training incentive at $536,000.

The Waterloo City Council is set to consider $600,000 in infrastructure grant funds for ConAgra to improve MidPort Road.
