QFP creates 200 jobs in Denison

DENISON, Iowa — Quality Food Processors (QFP) will add almost 200 jobs as a result of a planned $22.1 million facilities acquisition and expansion project in Denison.

QFP makes bacon and cooked meats by processing on contract for brands such as King Cotton and Blue Ribbon. Because of a new, long-term supply agreement, the company needs to expand and upgrade its existing operations to house a new bacon cooking line. The line is expected to be in operation by next spring.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded QFP a $1 million forgivable loan through the Economic Development Set-Aside program, a component of the federal Community Block Development Grant program, in support of the project. To qualify for the state funding, the company must pay the new hires a minimum hourly wage of $12.70 or more. The plant currently employs about 100.
